ABOUT US
The Living Environment
NURA is concerned with the quality of the living environment in North Uxbridge. We aim to protect the interests, overall, of the residents of the area – which is defined by the Ward boundaries to the North and West, Honeycroft Hill (with estate roads running off it ) and the River Pinn to the East. We monitor planning applications and the plans of Government Agencies and make representations to achieve our aims. We assist individual or groups of residents who seek our help to resist proposals which may adversely affect them. Membership is open to any adult owner or tenant of property in the area. Annual subscription £2.00.
Planning & Developments
We encourage good development and oppose bad. We had a busy period several years ago, when Developers were ‘popping up all over’ with plans to convert one or more large houses into flats. We advised and supported several residents groups and there were many successes. We made an input into the planning of St. Andrew’s Park, seeking to preserve its historic features and into the campaign to stop an earlier proposal to expand Heathrow, which would have taken up a large part of the South of the Borough. We have pressed hard for the early construction of a railhead at Harvil Road for HS2 to take spoil away by train rather than lorries on our roads. Now we face different threats, such as a proposal to erect tower blocks for supposedly ‘car free’ development. We campaign for better health facilities as the pressure on GP’s Surgeries grows.
keeping our finger on the pulse
We do our best to keep our finger on the pulse of what is going on in the field of public services, traffic and any major scheme which will affect us. We have good links with Uxbridge College, Hermitage Primary School and health service providers. We work with our local Councillors and, from time to time, contact our MP, Boris Johnson, to take up issues for us. We are very proud that some 500 of you responded to our invitation to celebrate the Queen’s 90thBirthday at the Community Picnic held on Uxbridge Common.

We currently hold two General Meetings per year for all residents to attend and six Committee Meetings, bi-monthly on the second Tuesday in the month at 8 p.m. at Christ Church. We have Road Representatives for almost all the roads in our area, who are Committee Members. Please get to know your Road Representative and let us know if there is anything you want to raise at our Committee Meetings – you are welcome to attend in person. If you have any ideas/skills/experience you would like to offer, we would love to hear from you.
